Veolia, the UK’s leading resource management company, has begun trialing a prototype Electric Recycling Collection Vehicle on routes across Lambeth, Westminster and Brent in London. The initiative is an important part of the company’s strategy to improve local air quality, reduce emissions and provide more sustainable recycling and waste collections.
During the trial the prototype vehicle will be operating in Lambeth (February 10-13), City of Westminster (February 14-18) and Brent (February 18-21).
Councillor Claire Holland, Lambeth Council’s Deputy Leader (Environment & Clean Air) said:
“It's great for Lambeth to be able to test out these new electric waste trucks, fresh off the production line. Our commitment to becoming a carbon neutral council by 2030 runs through everything that we do and switching to wholly electric vehicles as soon as it's feasible will play a big part in that. Our next generation of vehicles need to be not only zero emission to clean up our air and decarbonise transport in Lambeth but also have the highest standard of safety to eradicate road deaths and serious injuries from our roads.”
